You're right, Pat, I would have forgiven a lot and been less "hypercritical" (moi?)if Broken Trail (trial) had not been such an excrutiating experience to finish. I recently watched the Searchers and thought it a great flick though I was also struck by all the Levi's, etc. Just shows that one man's ...

Pat,
I read some where that the Union Pacific made it through Wyoming in 1868: wyoarchives.state.wy.us/articles/railroad.htm and this movie was set 30 years later! The telephone was invented in 1876, barbed wire in 1874, Wounded Knee was 1890, hell the Wright Brothers were flying 5 years later ...

Pat, I wasn't commenting on what Harden was wearing, but how he looked. He just didn't seem comfortable to me in his clothes or on his horse. Wasn't in the role... And his acting was terrible. Spoke more like a California surfing dude.

Maybe the land was not developed, but the tent villages ...

Broken Trail

This is highly touted movie was a big disappointment for me. About thirty minutes of movie "crammed" into 4 hours.

Did not strike me as very authentic and did not really fit the time given as 1898. Seemed more like the 1870's.

Robert Duvall is a superb actor and did a great job. Thomas Haden ...

It irritates me after a while. Has anyone thought about using a riding hall as a riding hall? Especially for the ones that still exist on Army posts. Heaven forbid any generals took up riding instead of fuddy-duddy golf.

I attended West Point and many of my classes were in Thayer Hall which was ...

I actually presented on talk on this battle to my class at the Combined Arms Services Staff School (CAS3) at Fort Leavenworth. I thought the Mexican War (and Punitive Expedition, for that matter) are forgotten chapters in our military history. This battle probably demonstrated the first real use of ...

I don't know why but I've also been collecting reproduction and original equipment of the Punitive Expedition. I found Machado's book invaluable. I talked to him on the phone and he sold me his original uniform (which he wears in the book) for $100! I too would have like more information about the ...
