Some more information: In researching these I found the same pattern with different colored fields. I found red, for Artillery and blue for mounted infantry. Finding these seems to indicate some military connection....thanks.

I have the impression that the 1902 rosettes had 8 tail feathers and the 1909's had 10 tail feathers. Is that an accurate dating feature or just a difference in manufacturers?

Probably wishful thinking on my part but, I have a pair of bridle rosettes that measure 2-1/4" diameter. They have a yellow (Cavalry?) field behind a star (Texas?).
