I bought a book yesterday authored by Harry Disston. According to the book jacket he was an officer in New York's famous Seventh Regiment and oganized an indoor polo team. In WWII he commanded a squadron and was executive officer of the Horsemanship Department (Ft. Riley ?). Serving with the occupation forces in Japan he assisted in the production of a rodeo in Tokyo and rode in horse races in the Philippines, Australia, and Japan.

I found this brief obituary in the NYT:

He must have had a very interesting life. Does anyone know more about him?

Harry Disston,

Gen. Disston wrote two books on equestrian matters. One comprised a dictionary of equestrian and cavalry terms authored for young people. I will have to search through my things to find the two titles. (I moved recently but have both books packed away in boxes.) After the General passed away, I was fortunate enough to acquire his personal library. I have his personal copy of General Chamberlin's book "Training Hunters, Jumpers and Hacks,"...Inside, I found a hand written note from Chamberlin to Disston. General Chamberlin, as Commanding General of the CRTC thanked Disston for his comments on the new cavalry drill regulations saying that the regs were now much clearer.
