Although there are horses mentioned, this book is about the life of an infantrymen, in WWI, which is a common topic here. It is well done and really shows what it was like, from one mans point of view. War has really not changed, for the basic soldier, to this day. I am finding it a very good read.

Just finished this book and I highly recommend it. The picture he paints, of the life of the common trooper, is eye opening. He uses everyday English to describe, their life, feelings and thoughts. I knew WWI was rough, but this gives it new meaning. At the beginning she says that, "life for a doughboy in WWI had not changed since the battle of Waterloo". I had not thought of it that way, but he was right.

Todd, when I was reading it, I thought about the comments you made about your grandfather. The things he talked about, with little to no emotion, amazed me.
