I was asked the question if I might know where Haig acquired his horse Poperinghe and how he came to own it and I frankly have no idea. I know that he rode the horse throughout World War One and that it was the horse that figured in an equestrian statute of Haig after the war. I also know that he gave it to the King, who renamed it Haig, and that it featured in Haig's funeral.
Does anyone know how Haig came to own the horse?
