Just thought I would post a photo of a scabbard that taken from a relic Model 1896 saddle. It is a purpose made item and well made, it has a piece of thicker leather placed between the two leather sections to give it extra support. The scabbard sat under the rear o/s quarterstrap and the footman loop used for saddlebags. I tend to think it could be for a night stick more than a sabre scabbard, if for a sabre the socket is somewhat rounded and there is no way of attaching a scabbard to stop it rising when a sabre is drawn. Not an overly interesting item but I thought I would share it, something I rediscovered whilst typically looking for something else.
A long shot I know but I would be interested to hear if anyone has similar or photos of one in use.
